Study in Europe Fair Colombia 2025

The Study in Europe Fair Colombia, which is part of the BMI Fair ExpoEstudiante/ExpoPosgrados, will give you the chance to:

meet Colombian students, academics, parents and professionals who are interested in the broad range of study opportunities in Europe;
introduce and to promote your country, your institution and study programmes to Colombian audiences.

An online event for Colombian (prospective) students, preceding the Study in Europe Fair, gives participating institutions the chance to present their country as a study destination and themselves to a larger audience than at the physical fair, including surrounding Latin American countries. It also enables exhibitors to further promote the physical fair during their online presentations.

An institutional networking event, preceding the Study in Europe Fair, strives to connect European higher education institutions with their Colombian counterparts and to enhance cooperation in tertiary education.

Participation fee for higher education institutions: 1.000 EUR (excl. VAT)

This includes:

an equipped working space for two days with printed back panels;
basic furniture and facilities;
2 free exhibitor passes per booth;
access to the online event for Colombian (prospective) students;
one entry in the online exhibitorcatalogue;
free participation of the institution’s representatives in the institutional networking event

Colombian education system and demographics

After Brazil and Mexico, Colombia is the most populous country in Latin America (about 50.3 million inhabitants, United Nations 2019). About 20% of the population is younger than 15 years old, a promising percentage with regards to potential university enrolment trends. In 2023, about 2.4 million people pursued qualifications in the higher education sector, of which 1.7 million were students at Colombia’s 34 public and 57 private universities.

In pre-pandemic times, Colombia was the number one booming country for universities and higher education in Latin America. During the COVID-19 pandemic, enrolment numbers declined, but recently stabilised again. Contrary to up until 2019 when students chose public and private universities in about equal number, there is currently a growing preference for public universities. For private universities, this means increased financial hardships, while public universities struggle with the increased demand and rising number of students. Especially in the postgraduate sector, there is a lack of master and PhD programmes outside of Bogotá. For this reason, Colombian students increasingly seek out opportunities abroad.

What studying abroad means for Colombian Students

Colombia has about 52,000 students studying abroad. Top study destinations include Argentina, Spain, Australia, France and Germany. As can be seen, Colombian students are highly interested in pursuing their higher education in European countries. Apart from exploring diverse languages and cultures, studying in Europe provides them with the opportunity to benefit from an extensive choice of courses and gain international experience, skills and knowledge.

Master and PhD programmes are in high demand with Colombian (prospective) students. With regards to study fields, Colombians are especially interested in engineering, economics, law, natural sciences, humanities, and medicine. More and more students also choose to study abroad on Bachelor level, preferably in English. Europe as a study destination enjoys an excellent reputation among Colombian (prospective) students.
